I had never been to Las Vegas before so Bob forced me to go. Or, I jumped at the chance because any opportunity to be away from the pets that wake me up at 5:30am on weekends is welcomed.
We stayed at the Wynn. You should know that the owner, Steve Wynn, is EVERYWHERE.
He had billboards all around town. When we got into a cab to leave the hotel, he showed up on the TV screen in the cab and pretty much said “You CANNOT leave my property unless you’re returning to the airport. In that case, come back soon!” Actually, when we really did get back to the airport we heard two songs immediately: Baby Come Back by Hall & Oates and One More Night by Phil Collins. I’m certain that Steve Wynn was behind those songs.
Anyways, lets forget about Steve Wynn’s stalkerish ways since I’ve taken out a restraining order against him. The views from his hotel were fantastic.
Looking out our window we were able to see the fireworks at the Treasure Island hotel, and a light show on a waterfall/ pond at the Wynn.
If I were ever a magical fairy, I’d live in the Wynn lobby. It was so beautiful with the pomanders and lights. As soon as I set foot in the lobby I realized I was out of place.
I wore flat flip flops and skirts and dresses that skimmed my knees. The other girls wore underwear disguised as minidresses and 6″ heels. Bob and I had some chuckles watching the girls try to walk without face planting. We saw a ton of girls carrying their shoes down the strip later at night.
For our first morning there, we waited in line for nearly an hour and a half for the Wynn Brunch because it had good ratings. Here is the main entrance foyer for the dining area:
Have I mentioned how expensive Vegas is? We paid $35 each for brunch and it didn’t even include mimosas.
The food wasn’t very good, and believe me, Bob tried EVERYTHING. He liked the grits. Have ya’ll had grits? Tasteless, soupy, mushy…rice? He said it reminds him of my cooking when we first started living together.
My favourite part was the dessert buffet, but even the desserts weren’t very good. Yes, that was all for me, and YES I went back for a few more plates. I really only had a bite or two of each and should have eaten my weight in the mint gelato instead.
The pool was refreshing bathwater. I think it was about 100 degrees, so it really WAS refreshing because it was 106 degrees outside.
Steve Wynn has pretty girls walking around in bathing suits and sheer skirts taking drink orders. Bob liked the skirt our waitress was wearing and asked me what it was called.
Me: It is a sarong.
Bob: A sarong? But it looks so right on her.
I didn’t care if he oogled our waitress as long as I got a margarita. The price tag on that plastic cup was a whopping $14. Worth every sip on the hot day though.
To be continued…
