We heard that Sandy’s beach has crazy waves, but we had to be careful. The waves break right at the shore which is very dangerous. There is a high risk of getting knocked down and snapping your neck. For some reason the fellas in our group thought it would be fun to taunt the ocean. It looks pretty harmless so far, doesn’t it?
Here is my favourite picture of the day. This is Jesse. As you can see he’s standing on sand and barely in the water. That wave is moments away from breaking and potentially taking Jesse down. If you look closely, there is a person being thrown around in the wave already.
I stood close to the shoreline most of the time with just my ankles in the water. Let me tell you…even the waves crashing into me ankle-deep were STRONG! It was hard to stay standing. Bob was even knocked down when he was calf-deep in water.
After about 5 minutes a lifeguard picked up a megaphone and suggested that inexperienced people head down to a beach down the road which is more swimmer-friendly. He didn’t address our group specifically, but it was obvious he was talking to us. We called it a day after that. We were happy to have everybody in one piece.
