He does what he wants

Bob and I went out to dinner and when we got back I couldn’t find Paco. I had taken off the register vent cover to paint and hadn’t put it back on the wall yet. Sure enough, that is where he decided to explore.

He wouldn’t come out! Bob and I tried food and diluted milk but Paco wasn’t interested. He wouldn’t get close enough so I could grab the scruff of his neck. I knew what I had to do. I grabbed his “kitty pot” (catnip) and that lit a fire under him! He scrambled as best as he could to squeeze out to get some of the catnip.

The vent cover was immediately put back into place and we checked Paco for any injuries. He’s fine and I gave him lots of snuggles after. I started imagining ripping out vents in the house and accumulating thousands of dollars in repairs just to get the mischievous cat out.

I done did it again

I got all of this for $0.78 total. Thanks, Safeway!

We Are Homeowners!

Bob and I closed on our new house last Wednesday! We met with the realtors and previous owners to finish up the paperwork. The old owners were really nice and had simply outgrown the house with four-year-old twin boys. The old owner had quite a green thumb and was telling me which veggies were already in the back garden. Turns out we’ll have squash and zucchini this summer! Bob already placed an order for zucchini bread.

Here he is unlocking the door for the first time.

I took the rest of closing day off from work and painted the master and office. The master was a bright yellow and I painted it a darker beige. Hard to tell the real colours in photos though.

Here is the old and new colour side-by-side:

I wanted a bluish gray colour for the office and picked a shade called “meditative”. It was the strangest colour because it went on very dull gray to start with, then after it dried it varied from periwinkle to robins egg blue. It was much brighter than what the picture shows below. We ended up going with a very light gray instead.

Bob and I were supposed to fly to NY for a wedding last weekend. Unfortunately, Airtran had mechanical problems and couldn’t get us home in time for the wedding. We didn’t want to waste the weekend so Bob ordered a moving truck, called some friends, and turbo packed all weekend. We were incredibly busy and Paco insisted on helping… by staying out of the way. He napped in the windowsill.

We have a lot of unpacking to do and are waiting for furniture to be delivered. A lot of folks have asked for pictures, and trust me, you’ll get pictures! We just need some time to get the house in order.

We spent the first night in the new house last night with all of the pets. Paco managed to make the drive over to the new house without any accidents in his car carrier. Such a good boy! Here is my little guy enjoying a strawberry treat on his 2nd birthday last week. He actually prefers strawberries and apples to steak and chicken. I never said he was normal!

My First Trip to Albertson’s

I usually shop at Safeway and King Soopers since those store are near my house. There is an Albertson’s grocery store across from where I work and I decided to stop in there for the first time since I heard about great deals there. I ended up getting all of this for a grand total of $0.52!

I saved $72.00 on this order. See, Josh? Spending $10 on newspapers every Sunday really does pay off! Also, I actually had 5 coupons left to be scanned on this order, but the store couldn’t pay me to take the groceries, so I had the cashier stop scanning the coupons when my order got to less than $1.00.

Big Red. No, not me.

Bob and I saw Conan O’Brien last night in Denver. Since getting kicked off the Late Show he embarked on a comedy tour. It was called the “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television” tour. I knew he was tall because he always pokes fun at himself, but holy cow he was really tall with self-proclaimed long spider legs. He also sported his signature red puffy wave of hair.

I didn’t realize how musical Conan is. Throughout the show he would perform with the band. He’d play guitar and the keyboard and he is pretty good. He would change lyrics to well-known songs to reflect the drama he is involved in with Jay Leno and the Tonight Show. Oddly enough, he never once mentioned Jay Leno’s name, but we assume it is for legal reasons. Here is his band:

Partway through the show he brought out a surprise. The Fray! It was an acoustic performance with just the piano and guitar. They played “Over My Head” (Cable Car), and “You Found Me”. They are from Denver so it was nice to have a local famous act perform.
